Let \(\Omega\) be an open bounded set in \(\mathbb R^n\) with a smooth boundary \(\partial\Omega\), and \[ \omega_{\epsilon}=\{x-\sigma\overset{\rightarrow}{n}: x\in\partial\Omega\text{ and } \sigma\in[0,\epsilon)\}, \] be the strip of small enough width \(\epsilon\) with base \(\partial \Omega\). Here \(\overset{\rightarrow}{n}\) denotes the outward normal vector at \(x\in\partial\Omega\). The paper deals with the behavior, as \(\epsilon \to 0\), of the solutions of the reaction-diffusion problem \((P_{\epsilon})\) \[ \frac{\partial u^{\epsilon}}{\partial t}=\Delta u^{\epsilon}-\lambda u^{\epsilon}+\frac{1}{\epsilon}\chi_{\omega_{\epsilon}}f(u^{\epsilon}(t),u^{\epsilon}(t-\tau))\text{ in }\Omega\times (0,\infty) \] together with the boundary condition \(\frac{\partial u^{\epsilon}}{\partial n}=0\text{ in }\partial \Omega\times (0,\infty)\) and the interior delay condition \(u^{\epsilon}=\varphi^{\epsilon},\text{ in }\Omega\times[-\tau,0],\) where \(\lambda>0,\tau>0, \chi_{\omega_{\epsilon}}\) is the characteristic function of the set \(\omega_{\epsilon}\) and the nonlinearity \(f:\mathbb R^2\to\mathbb R\) is locally Lipschitz. Let \(\alpha, p\) satisfy \[ \frac{n}{2p}<\alpha<\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2p}\quad 1<p<\infty, \] denote by \(X_{\alpha}\) the Bessel potential space \(H^{2\alpha}_p(\Omega)\) and by \(C_{\alpha}\) the Banach space of continuous functions \(u:[-\tau,0]\to X^{\alpha}\) with the corresponding norm. It is assumed that \(\varphi^{\epsilon}\in C_{\alpha}\) and converges to \(\varphi_o\), in \(C_{\alpha}\), as \(\epsilon \to 0\). Under additional conditions on \(f\), the limit problem \((P_o)\) is \[ \frac{\partial u}{\partial t}=\Delta u-\lambda u\text{ in }\Omega\times (0,\infty) \] together with the delay boundary condition \[ \frac{\partial u}{\partial n}=f(u(t),u(t-\tau)),\quad \partial \Omega\times (0,\infty) \] and the delay interior condition \(u=\varphi ,\quad \Omega\times[-\tau,0]\) (cf. the authors previous paper [J. Differ. Equations 253, No. 9, 2573--2592 (2012; Zbl 1270.35276)]). The authors prove the existence of \(\epsilon_o>0\) such that the problems \((P_{\epsilon})\) have a global attractor \(\mathcal A_{\epsilon}\subset C_{\alpha}\) for each \(0\leq \epsilon\leq\epsilon_o.\) Moreover, \(\mathcal A _{\epsilon}\) is contained in a suitable subset \(\Sigma\) of \(C_{\alpha}\). The upper semicontinuity of the family of attractors \(\mathcal A_{\epsilon}\) at \(\epsilon=0\), and the continuity, at \(\epsilon=0\), of the set of equilibria of (\(P_{\epsilon}),0\leq\epsilon\leq\epsilon_o,\) are also studied.
