The authors discuss a numerical scheme for solving linear Volterra integral equations of the second kind. The basic assumptions are that both the kernel and the forcing function are smooth, and so the unknown solution is smooth as well. The numerical approach is based on spectral or pseudo-spectral Jacobi-Galerkin techniques. The paper begins with a discussion of the concrete implementation of such methods. This is followed by a rigorous error analysis, both in an \(L_\infty\) norm and in a weighted \(L_2\) norm, that demonstrates the high convergence order of the method under the assumed hypotheses.
