    In this paper, the authors generalize some results of \textit{D. P. Sinha} and \textit{A. K. Karn} [Stud. Math. 150, No. 1, 17--33 (2002; Zbl 1008.46008)] (see also [Math. Nachr. 281, No. 3, 412--423 (2008; Zbl 1144.47017)]). If \(\lambda\) is a sequence Banach space, assumed to be a BK-space, the authors say that a subset \(K\) of a Banach space \(X\) is \textit{\(\lambda\)-compact} (actually, \(\lambda\)-relatively compact would be better), resp.\ \textit{weak \(\lambda\)-compact}, if there is a sequence \(\{x_n\}_n\) in \(X\) strongly in \(\lambda\) (i.e., \(\{\| x_n \|\}_n \in \lambda\)), resp.\ weakly in \(\lambda\), such that \(K \subseteq \lambda \text{-co}\, \{x_n : n \geq 1 \}\), where \(\lambda \text{-co}\, \{x_n : n \geq 1 \} = \Big\{ \sum \alpha_n x_n : \{\alpha_n\}_n \in B_{\lambda^\times} \Big\}\) and \(\lambda^\times\) is the Köthe dual of \(\lambda\). Usual compactness corresponds to \(\lambda = c_0\), and \textit{D. P. Sinha} and \textit{A. K. Karn} [loc.\,cit.]\ considered the cases \(\lambda = \ell_p\), \(p \geq 1\). The present authors then define the notion of \(\lambda\)-compact and weak \(\lambda\)-compact operators. Their main result is that, under suitable assumptions on \(\lambda\), the \(\lambda\)-compact operators form a quasi-normed operator ideal space. They also define the notions of absolutely \(\lambda\)-summing, \(\lambda\)-nuclear and quasi \(\lambda\)-nuclear operators and study the relationships between these spaces, or between these spaces and those consisting of operators whose adjoints are in these spaces.
