Let \(\widehat X\) be a smooth projective curve over the spectrum of a complete discrete valuation ring, and let \(\widehat F\) be the completion of the function field of \(\widehat X\) with respect to the discrete valuation given by the closed fiber \(X\). The author constructs indecomposable \(F\)-division algebras which do not arise from a Galois 2-cocycle. Indecomposable division algebras where index and period are unequal 2-powers have been constructed in 1979 by Saltman and Amitsur. The author makes use of the method of patching over fields developed by Harbater and Hartmann in 2007. He constructs an index preserving homomorphism \(\mathrm{Br}(\widehat{F}) \to\mathrm{Br}(F)\) that splits the restriction map to lift indecomposable \(\widehat{F}\)-division algebras to \(F\)-algebras with the desired properties.
