A conjecture of Lang predicts a lower bound for the canonical height of a rational point of infinite order on an elliptic curve over a number field. A result in this direction has been obtained by \textit{M. Hindry} and \textit{J. H. Silverman} [Invent. Math. 93, No. 2, 419--450 (1988; Zbl 0657.14018)] who use explicit formulae for the decomposition of the Néron-Tate height into local heights. A generalization of Lang's Conjecture to abelian varieties has been proposed by Silverman, a partial proof has been obtained by \textit{S. David} [Bull. Soc. Math. Fr. 121, No. 4, 509--544 (1993; Zbl 0803.11031)] by means of a transcendence argument. The main goal of the paper under review is to extend the method of proof of Hindry and Silverman to abelian surfaces. As corollary of his results, the author deduces uniform bounds for the torsion of some abelian surfaces, as well as a uniform bound for the number of rational points on some families of curves of genus 2.
