The authors propose a model to consider the interaction of one virus with \(n\) different types of target cells. They assume that the virus can infect each of these \(n\) types of cells in the same mechanism but with different infection rates. They also assume there is an variance in time needed for the these target cells to become infectious after infection, as well as the a variance in time needed for the the virus replication within the infected cells. Based on these, the authors propose a model of differential equations with distributed delays. By constructing two Lyapunov functionals, they are able to show that the model demonstrates the global threshold dynamics in the sense that when the basic reproduction number is less than one, then the infection free equilibrium (IFE) is globally asymptotically stable; when the basic reproduction number is less than one, then the IFE becomes unstable and the model allows a infection equation which is globally asymptotically stable.
