The authors construct special irreducible unitary representations of groups that are infinite-dimensional analogs of the maximal parabolic subgroups in the unitary groups \(U(n, 1)\) or in the orthogonal groups \(O(n, 1)\), respectively and describe extensions of these representations to unitary representations of the infinite-dimensional groups \(U(n, \infty)\) and \(O(n, \infty)\). In the infinite-dimensional case there is an interesting difference in the construction between the orthogonal and unitary groups which is due to the different character of special representations of the groups of coefficients. The construction of representations of the corresponding current groups associated with these representations follows the same scheme as for finite-dimensional groups and is described in detail in the authors' paper [St. Petersbg. Math. J. 23, No. 3, 459--510 (2012); translation from Algebra Anal. 23, No. 3, 63--136 (2011; Zbl 1256.81058)].
