This is the 2nd edition of [the authors, Coherent states, wavelets and their generalizations. New York, NY: Springer (2000; Zbl 1064.81069)] which is updated for to include the remarkable developments since the appearance of the 1st edition. The applications of coherent states concern besides traditional aspects of quantum physics also quantum gravity and quantum information processing. An overview is given by the authors, and \textit{F. Bagarello} [J. Phys. A, Math. Theor. 45, No. 24, Article ID 240301 (2012: \url{doi:10.1088/1751-8113/45/24/240301})] which is the preface written by them as guest editors of this special issue of the Journal on ``coherent states: mathematical and physical aspects'' containing 36 papers by well known experts. Among main points by which the present edition is enlarged are the use of coherent states in applied group theory, harmonic analysis, quantization and its probabilistic formulation. The formal relationship of coherent states with wavelets is considered, and the use of wavelets and generalisations for signaling, and image processing are included. Certain sections of the 1st edition have been written new for to adapt them to the new topics. Two other recent textbooks on coherent states [the 3rd author, Coherent states in quantum physics. Wiley-VCH, Berlin (2009)], and [\textit{M. Combescure}, and \textit{D. Robert}, Coherent states and applications in mathematical physics. Berlin: Springer (2012; Zbl 1243.81004)] are mentioned.
