This paper deals with an impulsive delay differential equation of the form \[ \begin{aligned} u^{\prime }(t)+a(t)&u(t)=\lambda f(t,u(t-\tau (t)))+\lambda e(t),~t\in\mathbb{R},~t\neq t_{k},\\ &u(t_{k}^{+})=u(t_{k}^{-})+c_{k}u(t_{k}),~k=1,2,\dots, \end{aligned} \] where \(\lambda >0\) is a real parameter, \(-\infty <t_{1}<t_{2}<\dots\) are given impulsive points with \(\lim_{k\to\infty}\;t_{k}=\infty\). By using Dancer's global bifurcation theorem, the authors obtain the optimal interval for the parameter \(\lambda ,\) in which positive periodic solutions of the given equation exist.
