The paper considers scalar partial difference equations (P\(\Delta\)Es) for which multi-dimensional consistency is achieved by embedding the equation into a cube by imposing copies of the same equation defined on a planar lattice, but with a different lattice parameter. Here, P\(\Delta\)Es of the form \[ F(x,x_1,x_2,x_{12};p,q) = 0 \] are considered, with the usual notation. The Lax pairs for the P\(\Delta\)Es are introduced and the software package Mathematica is applied for the symbolic computation of the Lax pairs for the Boussinesq, the Toda-modified Boussinesq, the Schwarzian Boussinesq, and the modified Boussinesq equation. Based on the same Mathematica code, the Lax pairs for the two-component potential KdV and nonlinear Schrödinger systems are computed. Finally, new Lax pairs with \(3\times 3\) matrices (instead of \(4\times 4\) matrices) for the two- and three-component Hietarinta systems are obtained.
