The integrated current across the bond \((0,1)\) and the position of a tagged particle in a one-dimensional symmetric nearest-neighbor simple exclusion have been considered in [\textit{M. D. Jara} and \textit{C. Landim}, Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Probab. Stat. 42, No. 5, 567--577 (2006; Zbl 1101.60080)]. They proved laws of large numbers and central limit theorems when the process starts from some class of initial measures. In the paper under review, the setting is extended to two classes of initial measures: local equilibrium measures and deterministic initial configurations. In both cases, the initial measure depends on a profile which is a piecewise continuous function with values in \([0,1]\). The goal of the paper is to prove large deviation principles in diffusive scale and to give lower and upper bounds on the associated rate functions. Under some assumptions on the profile, it is proved that the rate functions are quadratic near their zeros but are third order far away from the zeros. A different large deviations behavior is shown to hold true for the profile \(1_{[-1,+1]}\) which does not satisfies the assumptions.
