Let \(R\) be an integral domain. Let \(A(R)\) be the norm closed operator algebra generated by unitaries \(\{u^n:n\in R\}\) and isometries \(\{s^r:r\in R^{\times}\}\) which is universal for isometric representations of \(R\). The author considers the operator algebra \(A(R)\) associated to the integral domain \(R\) in this paper. Firstly, a complete description of the structure of \(A(R)\) is given if \(R\) is a field, i.e., it is proved that \(A(R)\) is \(*\)-isomorphic to \(\mathbb C\oplus A\), where \(A\) is a simple \(C^*\)-algebra. After viewing the field case, the author analyzes structure of \(A(R)\) when \(R\) is a non-field integral domain. Those algebras are shown to give a new class of examples of semicrossed products by discrete semigroups. In particular, \(A(R)\) is semisimple if and only if \(R\) is a field. Moreover, certain unitary representations of those algebras are investigated.
