For functions \(f\), \(g\), \(\psi\) of the Schwartz class \({\mathcal S}({\mathbb R}^d)\), the authors consider the windowed Wigner transforms \[ {\mathrm{Wig}}_{\psi}(f,g)(x,\omega) = \int_{\mathbb{R}^d} e^{-2 \pi i t\omega}\, \psi(t)\, f(x + t/2)\,\overline{g(x-t/2)}\, dt \] and \({\mathrm{Wig}}_{\psi}^{\ast}(f,g)(x,\omega) = {\mathrm{Wig}}_{\psi}(\hat f,\hat g)(\omega,-x)\), where \(\hat f\), \(\hat g\) denote the corresponding Fourier transforms. Some mapping properties of \({\mathrm{Wig}}_{\psi}\) and \({\mathrm{Wig}}_{\psi}^{\ast}\) are presented for integrable functions as well as tempered distributions. It is shown that these windowed Wigner transforms belong to the Cohen class. Marginal distributions and support properties are analyzed too. In some examples, the interference for signals is reduced. The authors describe how \({\mathrm{Wig}}_{\psi}\) and \({\mathrm{Wig}}_{\psi}^{\ast}\) can be combined in order to have a better behavior both in time and frequency. Finally, some uncertainty principles for \({\mathrm{Wig}}_{\psi}\) and \({\mathrm{Wig}}_{\psi}^{\ast}\) are presented.
