A study of the theory of ratios in the second half of the 17th century, as explained in the works of Andreas Tacquet, Antoine Arnauld, Ignace Gaston Pardies, Bernard Lamy, and Jacques Rohault, reveals that, although the question was not forgotten after Descartes \textit{Géométrie}, the approach distances itself from that of Euclid's \textit{Elements} Book V in all of these authors, with the exception of Tacquet, and in all cases introduce new notions, new implicit epistemologies.
