Let \(\mathcal L_{f,\xi}\), NEWLINE\[NEWLINE \mathcal L_{f,\xi}h(x) = \sum_{y\in f^{-1}(x)} \xi(y) h(y),\quad x\in [0,1], NEWLINE\]NEWLINE be the transfer operator associated to a piecewise Hölder continuous weight function \(\xi: [0,1]\to \mathbb C\), and a piecewise expanding, piecewise differentiable selfmap \(f\) on \([0,1]\) which satisfies certain additional regularity conditions depending on \(\xi\). Suppose that, a priori, \(\mathcal L_{f,\xi}\) acts on the Banach space \(\mathcal M\) of complex-valued Borel measures on \([0,1]\) equipped with the norm of total variation.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn this note, the author defines a one-parameter family of Banach spaces \(\mathcal B_\alpha \subseteq \mathcal M\), \(\alpha\in (0,1)\), such that \(\mathcal B_0\) is the space of absolutely continuous measures with density of bounded variation, and \(\mathcal B_1 = \mathcal M\). For each admissible pair \((f,\xi)\) there is an effectively determined interval \(J=J(f,\xi) \subseteq (0,1)\) such that the spectral radius and the essential spectral radius of \(\mathcal L_{f,\xi}\), as an operator on \(\mathcal B_\alpha\), \(\alpha\in J\), are bounded from above by a constant depending only on \((f,\xi)\), resp. on \((f,\xi,\alpha)\).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe author indicates that this result can be generalized to other settings.
