The aim of the present paper is to study some features of homoclinic orbits for first-order periodic Hamiltonian systems with spectrum point zero. After investigating the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic orbits for a class of first-order periodic Hamiltonian systems, the authors use two critical point theorems for strongly indefinite functionals in order to explore new criteria that guarantee that for Hamiltonian systems with asymptotically quadratic terms and spectrum point zero, there exist at least one homoclinic orbit (and infinitely many under certain conditions). Furthermore, the hypotheses and analytical methods described in the present work are different from those presented in the literature.
