This paper is a systematic study of spacing subshifts. A spacing subshift defined by a set \(A\subset\mathbb{N}\) is the collection of all sequences from \(\{0,1\}^\mathbb{N}\) such that the distance between any pair of ones in the sequence is a number from \(A\). First the authors review known results about spacing subshifts, including the analysis of mixing and weak mixing. Then they give a condition equivalent to a spacing subshift having a dense set of periodic points. Next, some groundwork is laid out for the analysis of transitivity of such subshifts, though the results are not yet conclusive. A separate section is devoted to analysing the relation of spacing subshifts to various notions of chaos, including distributive chaos.
