In this paper the compressible Navier-Stokes-Korteweg system with friction for \((x,t) \in\mathbb R^3\times\mathbb R^+\) is investigated. The system is supplemented by initial conditions for the density and the velocity vector. The authors discuss the global existence and the optimal \(L^2\) decay rate of solutions to the corresponding initial value problem. Their results are obtained by the so-called pure energy method under the assumption that the initial perturbation around a constant rate is small enough. Furthermore, the authors present the decay rates of the higher-order spatial derivatives of the solution. The paper is self-contained. All the necessary lemmas are proven directly. The proof of the main result is based on a family of scaled energy estimates and interpolation among them without linear decay analysis.
