Let \(K\) be a compact subset of \({\mathbb C}^n\), and \(Q\) be a lower semicontinuous function on \(K\) such that the set \(\{Q<\infty\}\) is not pluripolar. The weighted extremal function \(V_{K,Q}\) of \(K\) with respect to \(Q\) is the upper envelope of plurisubharmonic functions \(u\) on \({\mathbb C}^n\) such that \(u(z)\leq \log^+|z|+O(1)\) as \(z\to\infty\) and \(u\leq Q\) on \(K\). It was proved in [\textit{E. B. Saff} and \textit{V. Totik}, Logarithmic potentials with external fields. Berlin: Springer. (1997; Zbl 0881.31001)] that if \(K\) is a compact subset of the complex plane, not polar at each of its points, then there exists \(Q\) such that \(\text{supp\,}\Delta V_{K,Q}=K\). The authors extend this to \({\mathbb C}^n\); moreover, they show that such a weight \(Q\) can be chosen to be continuous. The proof is new even for \(n=1\).
