This is a continuing work of \textit{J.-S. Guo} and \textit{C.-H. Wu} [J. Dyn. Differ. Equations 24, No. 4, 873--895 (2012; Zbl 1263.35132)]. In that article, Guo and Wu studied the long-time behavior of solutions to a two species weak competition model with free boundary. They obtained some sufficient conditions for spreading success (\(s_{\infty}=\lim\limits_{t\to\infty}s(t)=\infty\) and populations can persist) and spreading failure (\(s_{\infty}<\infty\) and populations vanish eventually). Here \(x=s(t)\) is the free boundary, and \(t\) is the time. When spreading happens, an upper estimate \(\limsup\limits_{t\to\infty}\frac{s(t)}{t}\) of the spreading speed was given. Now, in this article, Wu obtains two lower estimates and a more elaborate upper estimate of the spreading speed. Furthermore, assuming that \(s(t)=ct\), \(z=ct-x\), he obtains the existence of a traveling wave solution \((\bar{u}(t),\bar{v}(t))\) of the problem for some \(c^{*}>0\).
