    For \(0<r<1\), define the complete elliptic integral of the first kind by \[ K(r)=\int_{0}^{\pi/2} \frac{d\theta}{\sqrt{1 - r^{2} \sin^{2} \theta}}. \] For each real number \(p\), denote the power mean of order \(p\) of two positive numbers \(x\) and \(y\) by \[ M_{p}(x,y) = (x^{p} + y^{p}/2)^{1/p}\quad \text{for }\;p \neq 0 \] and \[ M_{p}(x,y)=\sqrt{xy}\quad \text{for }\;p =0. \] The main results of this paper are the inequalities \[ M_{p}(K(r), K(r')) \geq K(\sqrt{2}/2) \] and \[ M_{q}(K(r), K(r'))\leq K(\sqrt{2}/2). \] These are shown to hold for all \(r\in (0,1)\) and \(r' = \sqrt{1 - r^{2}}\) if and only if \[ p\geq \frac{1-4[K(\sqrt{2}/2)]^4}{\pi^{2}} \] and \[ q\leq \frac{\log 2}{\log(\pi /2) - \log K(\sqrt{2}/2)}. \]
