    Let \(\widehat{M}\) be an odd-dimensional spin \(b\)-manifold with a \(b\)-metric [\textit{R. B. Melrose}, The Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index theorem. Wellesley, MA: A. K. Peters, Ltd. (1993; Zbl 0796.58050)]. Let \(D\) be the associated Dirac operator and \(^{\partial}D\) its restriction to the boundary \(\partial \widehat{M}\). Let \(g\in U_k(C^{\infty}(\widehat{M}))\) be a unitary over \(\widehat{M}\) and \(\mathrm{Ch}_{\circ}(g)\) (resp. \(\mathrm{Ch}_{\circ}^{dR} (g)\)) the Chern character of \(g\) in the entire cyclic homology of \(C^{\infty}(\widehat{M})\) (resp. de Rham cohomology of \(\widehat{M}\). Let \(\oint_{\widehat{M}}\) be the regularized integral on \(\widehat{M}\) with respect to its \(b\)-metric and \(\hat{A}(\widehat{M})\) the \(\hat{A}\)-genus form of \(\widehat{M}\). Denote the higher cochain of \(^{\partial}D\) by \(\eta^{\circ} (^{\partial} D)\), introduced by \textit{F. Wu} [K-Theory 7, No. 2, 145--174 (1993; Zbl 0787.58041)]. The author proves an analogue for odd-dimensional spin manifold with boundary of the higher Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index theorem of \textit{E. Getzler} [Contemp. Math. 148, 19--45 (1993; Zbl 0798.46049)] and Wu [Zbl 0787.58041]: If \(\|d ^{\partial} g\| < \lambda\), where \(\lambda\) is the lowest nonzero eigenvalue of \(|^{\partial} D|\) and \(^{\partial} g\) is the restiction of \(g\) to the boundary, then \[ \mathrm{sf}(D, g^{-1} D g)= \oint_{\widehat{M}} \hat{A} (\widehat{M}) \wedge \mathrm{Ch}_{\circ}^{dR} (g) - \langle \eta^{\circ} (^{\partial} D), \mathrm{Ch}_{\circ}(^{\partial} g)\rangle, \tag{1} \] where \(\mathrm{sf}(D, g^{-1} D g)\) is the spectral flow of the path \(D_u = (1-u) D + u g^{-1} D g\) with \(u\in [0,1]\). By comparing (1) with Dai-Zhang's Toeplitz index formula for odd-dimensional manifolds with boundary [\textit{X. Dai} and \textit{W. Zhang}, J. Funct. Anal. 238, No. 1, 1--26 (2006; Zbl 1114.58011)], the author shows that if \(\|d ^{\partial} g \|< \lambda\), then \[ \langle \eta^{\circ} (^{\partial} D), \mathrm{Ch}_{\circ} ( ^{\partial} g)\rangle = - \overline{\eta} (\partial \widehat{M}, ^{\partial} g)\mod {\mathbb{Z}}, \] where \(\overline{\eta} (\partial \widehat{M} , ^{\partial} g) \) is the (reduced) eta invariant of Dai-Zhang. The results are systematically well-organized.
