Multiplicative excellent families of elliptic surfaces of type \(E_7\) or \(E_8\) (Q380379)

The authors study two families of rational elliptic surfaces and they show that these families are multiplicative excellent with Galois group isomorphic to the Weyl group of \(E_7\) and \(E_8\). The case of \(E_6\) has already been treated by \textit{T. Shioda} in [Proc. Japan Acad., Ser. A 88, No. 3, 46--51 (2012; Zbl 1297.14042)]. The proof of this result allows to show a polynomial relation between the coefficients of the Weierstrass equation of the family of elliptic surfaces and the fundamental characters of \(E_7\) (resp. \(E_8\)). The explicit construction of an excellent family of algebraic varieties is of interest in number theory as well.
