The author extends previously known results by \textit{L. Tartar} [Lect. Notes Math. 594, 474--481 (1977; Zbl 0387.76045); Lect. Appl. Math. 23, Pt. 1, 243--266 (1986; Zbl 0602.35009)] and the first author and \textit{P. Gérard} [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Cl. Sci. (5) 11, No. 1, 1--39 (2012)] on the periodic homogenization of the Stokes equations with oscillating drift. It is shown that in 2D the \(L^2\)-boundedness of the drift can be removed provided the divergence (of the drift) has a sign. In 3D, the author points out non-local effects with a free divergence drift in \(L^1\).
