The Mond-Pečarić inequality asserts that, if \(f:J\to\mathbb{R}\) is a continuous convex function, then \(f(\langle Ax,x\rangle)\leq\langle f(A)x,x\rangle\) holds for every self-adjoint operator \(A\) on a Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\) with spectrum in \(J\) and every unit vector \(x\in\mathcal{H}\). This inequality provides a Jensen inequality for convex functions of self-adjoint operators on Hilbert spaces. \textit{R. P. Agarwal} and \textit{S. S. Dragomir} [Comput. Math. Appl. 59, No. 12, 3785--3812 (2010; Zbl 1198.26019)] provided several upper bounds for \(\langle f(A)x,x\rangle-f(\langle Ax,x\rangle)\). In the present paper, utilizing the Mond-Pečarić inequality, the author proves that, if \(f:[m,M]\subseteq\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{C}\) is a continuous square convex function, i.e., if \(|f|^2\) is convex on \([m,M]\), then the inequality \(|f(\langle Ax,x\rangle)|\leq\|f(A)x\|\) holds for every self-adjoint operator \(A\) on a Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\) with spectrum in \([m,M]\) and every unit vector \(x\in\mathcal{H}\). The author obtains some general upper bounds for \(\|f(A)x\|^2-|f(\langle Ax,x\rangle)|^2\) and then provides some upper bounds in the case when \(f\) is differentiable square convex.
