The authors present some of their recent results regarding systems described by linear equations which often arise in various domains of engineering and science. The specificity of the approach consists in the fact that the information regarding design values for a systems is obtained from the results of a few measurements made on the systems. The concepts are discussed in direct relation to applications in linear electric circuits, mechanical, civil, hydraulic and control systems. The main idea is to determine the coefficients involved in the dependence, supposed polynomials or rational fractions, between the input and output using the results of a set of measurements. The book is structured in five chapters. The first one, linear equations with parameters, presents the basic theory including a generalized superposition theorem and a measurement theorem. Chapter two presents current control and power level control applications to DC circuits. In the third chapter the above applications are extended to AC circuits. Chapter four deals with applications to mechanical systems with focus on mass-spring and truss systems, as well as hydraulic networks, each illustrated with an example. In the last chapter the authors present applications to SISO control systems and give an example. The book is clearly written and gives an interesting point of view to students and researchers who might consider using the content in their research.
