Let \(K\) be a nonarchimedean local field and let \(K\) be a maximal unramified field extension of \(K\). Let \(G\) be a semisimple almost simple algebraic group defined and split over \(K\). Let \(\varphi_{V}\) be the Harish-Chandra character of \(V\) where \(V\) is an admissible representation of \(G(K)\) of finite length. Let \(G_{rs}\) be the set of regular semisimple elements of \(G\) and set \(G(K)_{rs}= G_{rs}\cap G(K)\). \(\varphi_{V}\) is viewed as a complex valued function on \(G(K)_{rs}\). The authors of the paper under review consider the restriction of \(\varphi_{V}\) to certain subsets of \(G(K)_{rs}\), i.e. the set of very regular elements in \(G(K)\) denoted by \(G(K)_{vr}\) when \(V\) is the Steinberg representation of \(G(K)\), and the subset \(G(K)_{svr}\), the set of split very regular elements in \(G(K)\) when V is an irreducible admissible representation of \(G(K)\) with nonzero vectors fixed by an Iwahori subgroup. The authors show that in the first case the value of \(\varphi_{V}\) is a power of \(q\), the number of elements in the residue field, and in the second case it will be given by a trace in the corresponding Hecke algebra module. They use \textit{W. Cassleman}'s results and methods to obtain their results of the paper [Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 26, 413--417 (1973; Zbl 0289.22017); Math. Ann. 230, 101--105 (1977; Zbl 0337.22019)] and [\textit{Harish-Chandra}, Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 26, 167--192 (1973; Zbl 0289.22018)].
