A topological space \(X\) is \textit{compactly metrisable} provided that there is a metric \(d\) on \(X\) whose restriction to each compact subset of \(X\) is compatible with the subspace topology. A \(k\omega\)-\textit{network} for \(X\) is a family \(\mathcal F\) of subsets such that for each \(x\in X\) there are a compact \(C\subset X\) and a countable \(\mathcal G\subset\mathcal F\) such that \(x\in C\) and for each open neighbourhood \(U\) of \(C\) there is \(G\in\mathcal G\) such that \(x\in G\subset U\). If \(X\) is compactly metrisable and has an infinite \(k\omega\)-network \(\mathcal F\) then \(X\) has a network \(\mathcal S\) such that \(|\mathcal S|\leq|\mathcal F|\). It is also shown that a Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space is compactly metrisable if and only if it has a countable network.
