The familly of Hantzsche-Wendt (HW) manifolds is a class of flat manifolds which are rational homology spheres. The authors prove the following result: ``Cyclic HW manifolds do not carry the \(\text{Spin}^\mathbb{C}\) structure''. For this, using classical techniques of algebraic geometry, they show that an oriented manifold \(M^n\) of dimension \(N\), such that \(H^2(M^n,\mathbb{R})=0\), has a \(\text{Spin}^\mathbb{C}\) structure if and only if the holonomy map \(\pi_1:M^n \rightarrow\mathrm{SO}(n)\) factorizes through the map \(\text{Spin}^\mathbb{C} \rightarrow\mathrm{SO}(n)\). The last result is an existence result, with non constructive proof, and the first result is obtained by an obstruction argument.
