Consider a big line bundle \(L\) on a projective variety \(X\). The Okounkov body of \(L\) is a closed convex set of \(R^{\dim(X)}\) (\(R\) stands for the real numbers) naturally associated to \(L\): roughly speaking is the convex hull of the leading coefficients of the formal series expansions of the global sections of the multiples of \(L\). On the other hand, local positivity of \(L\) can be measured via the so called \textit{Seshadri constant}, presented in this paper as a supremum of rates \(s/k\), being \(s\) the \(s\)-jets that can be separated by \(H^0(X,kL)\) (at a very general point of \(X\)). The main result of the paper states that Okounkov bodies give lower bounds on Seshadri constants by means on the Seshadri constants of the polarized toric variety associated to these convex sets.
