A note on static spaces and related problems (Q391007)

The paper studies static spaces. Progress is made in classifying vacuum static spaces. Cotton tensors and Bach tensors on Riemannian manifolds are introduced. Also an augmented Cotton tensor is given and a local splitting property. The vanishing of the augmented Cotton tensor is used to establish the local splitting property. A complete classification for Bach flat vacuum static spaces is done. Manifolds admitting solutions to the critical point equation in general dimensions are discussed. The focus lies partly on dimension 3. In this case some theorems are proven showing stronger results than general.
