\textit{A. V. Arhangel'skiĭ} proved in [Sov. Math., Dokl. 10, 951--955 (1969); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 187, 967--970 (1969; Zbl 0191.20903)] that for a Hausdorff topological space \(X\), it holds that \(|X|\leq 2^{L(X)\cdot \chi(X)}\), where \(L(X)\) and \(\chi(X)\) denote the Lindelöf number and the character of \(X\), respectively. In this paper a modification of Theorem 3.1 of \textit{R. E. Hodel} [Topology Appl. 153, No. 13, 2119--2217 (2006; Zbl 1099.54001)] is established where the \textit{tightness condition} of Hodel's Theorem is replaced by the \textit{monotone and expansive condition}. As a consequence of that it is obtained that for a topological Hausdorff space \(X\), the cardinality of \(X\) is bounded by \(2^{aL\psi_c(X)}\), where \(aL\psi_c(X)\) denotes the almost Lindelöf closed pseudo-character of \(X\). In the frame of Urysohn spaces it is obtained that for a Urysohn space \(X\), the cardinality of \(X\) is bounded by \(2^{aL\psi(X)}\), where \(aL\psi(X)\) is the almost Lindelöf pseudo-character of \(X\). Open questions are also posed.
