Let \((R,{\mathfrak m})\) be a Noetherian local ring, \(I\subseteq R\) an \({\mathfrak m}\)-primary ideal and \(M\) a finitely generated \(R\)-module. Let \(H_{I,M}\) be the Hilbert function for \(I\) with respect to \(M.\) For n sufficiently large, \(H_{I,M}\) agrees with a polynomial \(P_{I,M},\) called the \textit{Hilbert-Samuel polynomial} for \(I\) with respect to \(M.\) We denote by \(e_i(I,M)\) the \textit{Hilbert coefficients} for \(I\) with respect to \(M\) (they are deduced by \(P_{I,M}\)). In the main result of the paper (Theorem 3.5), the author studies the non-positivity of the coefficient \(e_2({\mathfrak q},R),\) where \({\mathfrak q}\) is a parameter ideal, when the Krull dimension of \(R\) is greater than \(1\) and \(\text{depth} R\geq d-1.\)
