A matching dialgebra is a vector space \(A\) with two associative products \(\circ_1\) and \(\circ_2\) such that for all \(x,y,z \in A\): \[ (a\circ_1 b)\circ_2 c=a\circ_1 (b\circ_2 c)\text{ and } (a\circ_2 b)\circ_1 c=a\circ_2 (b\circ_1 c). \] The category and the operad of matching dialgebras are studied. First, the definition of matching dialgebras is reformulated in terms of matched pairs of algebras, and links are established with compatible Lie algebras, pre-Lie algebras (both left and right), and post-Lie algebras. Moreover, it is shown that the quadratic operad of matching dialgebras is self-dual and Koszul, using the rewriting method. Free matching algebras are described in terms of tensor products, as well as the operadic Koszul complex of a matching dialgebra.
