For a group \(G\) let \(S(G)=\langle H\leq G\mid H\ntrianglelefteq G\rangle\). A group \(G\) is called a Dedekind group if all its subgroups are normal, that is if \(S(G)=1\). A group is called a generalized Dedekind group if \(S(G)\neq G\). Further, let \(CS(G)=\langle g\in G\mid\langle g\rangle\ntrianglelefteq G\rangle\). \textit{D.~M.~Reboli} [in Groups St. Andrews 1997 in Bath, Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 261, 624-632 (1999; Zbl 0936.20028)] proved that \(S(G)=CS(G)\) holds for every group \(G\). A finite group \(G\) has property \(\mathcal P\) if and only if there exists a maximal subgroup \(M\) such that \(\langle x\rangle\vartriangleleft G\) for every \(x\in G\setminus M\). That is, a finite group \(G\) is a generalized Dedekind group if and only if \(G\) has property \(\mathcal P\). The author gives a new proof for this fact via several structural theorems about generalized Dedekind groups.
