[For the entire collection see Zbl 0719.00020.] In the paper the equation \[ F(x,y)=0, \qquad x\in X,\;y\in Y\tag{1} \] is regarded where \(X\) and \(Y\) are Banach spaces. Assuming \((x_ 0,y_ 0)\) satisfy this equation the aim is to formulate sufficient conditions such that the equation can be solved with respect to \(y\) for all \(x\) in a certain neighborhood of \(x_ 0\) according to \(y\in\alpha(x)=\{y\in Y:\;F(x,y)=0\}\), with \(\alpha(x)\neq\emptyset\). For this according to his famous book from 1980 the author introduces the notations \[ W_ \alpha(x,y^*):=\inf\{\langle y^*,y\rangle:\;y\in\alpha(x)\} \] and \[ \alpha^*_{(x_ 0,y_ 0)}(y^*):=\begin{cases} \emptyset\qquad & \text{if } \langle y^*,y_ 0\rangle\neq W_ a(x_ 0,y^*)\\ \partial_ xW_ \alpha(x_ 0,y^*)\quad & \text{if } \langle y^*,y_ 0\rangle=W_ a(x_ 0,y^*.)\end{cases} \] Using these fundamental notations the author shows that for convex mappings \(\alpha\) the conditions \[ \text{(i)}\quad\text{int dom }\alpha\neq\emptyset,\qquad\text{(ii)}\quad \alpha^*_{(x_ 0,y^*)}(0)=\{0\} \] are sufficient for the solvability of (1). The assertion is illustrated by some easy examples. In the second part of the paper analogous results are presented for the nonconvex case by using of the so-called marquee of a set, a special convex tangent approximation introduced by Boltjansky in 1975. Remark: Because of some misprints the legibility of the paper is impaired.
