If \(\Omega\) is a compact Hausdorff space and \(E\), \(F\) are Banach spaces, then for every \(T: C(\Omega, E)\to F\) there is a finitely additive vector measure \(G\) on \(\Omega\), taking the Borel subsets of \(\Omega\) into \({\mathcal L}(E, F^{**})\). In this paper there are studied connections between nuclear operators \({\mathcal N}(C(\Omega, E), F)\) and properties of the corresponding vector measures. It was shown [\textit{R. Bilyeu} and \textit{P. Lewis}, Ann. Mat. Pura Appl., IV. Ser. 109, 273-287 (1976; Zbl 0336.46048)] that \(T\) nuclear implies that the range of \(G\) is a subset of \({\mathcal N}(E, F)\). In this paper it is shown that \(T\) nuclear implies that the corresponding \(G\) is countably additive and of bounded variation, further, that the Radon-Nikodým property is necessary for \(F\), provided \(G\) enjoys the mentioned properties. The authors also study relationship between \(T\) and \(T^ \#(f)(e)= T(f\otimes e)\) and, as a final result, they give a characterization of the Radon-Nikodým property of \(E^*\), namely, that this is the case iff the following holds: For all compact \(\Omega\) an operator \(T\) is nuclear iff \(T^ \#: C(\Omega)\to {\mathcal N}(E, F)\) is nuclear.
