In this paper, the authors study the well-posedness theory of the motion of a physical vacuum for the compressible Euler equations with or without self-gravitation (\(\kappa=1\) or 0 in the following equations). This system reads \[ \begin{cases} \partial_t \rho+\text{div} (\rho {\mathbf u})=0\;\; &\text{in}\;\; \Omega(t), \\ \partial_t (\rho {\mathbf u})+\text{div} (\rho {\mathbf u} \otimes {\mathbf u} )+\nabla_{\mathbf x} p(\rho)=-\kappa \rho \nabla_{\mathbf x} \Psi\;\; &\text{in}\;\; \Omega(t), \\ \rho>0 \;\; &\text{in}\;\; \Omega(t), \\ \rho=0 \;\; &\text{on}\;\; \Gamma(t):=\partial \Omega(t), \\ \mathcal{V}(\Gamma(t))= {\mathbf u} \cdot {\mathbf n}, \\ (\rho, {\mathbf u})= (\rho_0, {\mathbf u}_0) \;\; &\text{on}\;\; \Omega:=\Omega(0), \end{cases} \] where \((x,t)\in \mathbb{R}^3\times [0,\infty)\) are the variables, \({\mathbf u}: \mathbb{R}^3\times [0,\infty) \longrightarrow \mathbb{R}^3\) is the velocity of the fluid and \(\rho : \mathbb{R}^3\times [0,\infty) \longrightarrow [0,\infty)\) is its density. The gravitational potential is given by \[ \Psi( {\mathbf x},t )=-\int_{\Omega(t)} \frac{\rho({\mathbf y},t)}{| {\mathbf x}-{\mathbf y}|}d{\mathbf y}, \] and the pressure is assumed to be of the form \[ p(\rho)=A \rho^{\gamma}. \] The set \(\Omega(t)\subset \mathbb{R}^3\) represents the volume occupied by the fluid and \({\mathbf n}\) is the exterior unit normal vector to its boundary \(\Gamma(t)\). First, a general uniqueness theorem of classical solutions is proved for the three dimensional general motion. Second, for the spherically symmetric motions, without imposing the compatibility condition of the first derivative being zero at the center of symmetry, a new local-in-time existence theory is established in a functional space involving less derivatives than those constructed for three-dimensional motions in [\textit{D. Coutand} et al., Commun. Math. Phys. 296, No. 2, 559--587 (2010; Zbl 1193.35139)], [\textit{D. Coutand} and \textit{S. Shkoller}, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 206, No. 2, 515--616 (2012; Zbl 1257.35147)] and [\textit{J. Jang} and \textit{N. Masmoudi}, Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 68, No. 1, 61--111 (2015; Zbl 1317.35185)], by constructing suitable weights and cutoff functions featuring the behavior of solutions near both the center of the symmetry and the moving vacuum boundary.
