From the abstract: ``The motion of a heavy tracer particle weakly coupled to a dense, weakly interacting Bose gas exhibiting Bose-Einstein condensation is studied. In the so-called mean-field limit, the dynamics of this system approaches a dynamics determined by nonlinear Hamiltonian evolution equations. It is proven that the particle decelerates due to the emission of Cherenkov radiation of sound waves if the initial speed of the tracer particle is above the speed of sound in the Bose gas. Thereat the particle motion approaches a uniform motion at the speed of sound as the time tends to infinity.'' The decrease of the particle speed with the time has already been analysed for a simple ideal Bose gas model at a coupling constant \(g\rightarrow0\) (B-model) in a former work of the authors together with \textit{A. Soffer} [J. Math. Phys. 52, No. 8, 083508, 13 p. (2011; Zbl 1272.70067); Commun. Math. Phys. 315, No. 2, 401--444 (2012; Zbl 1263.82033)]. Therefore, the authors concentrate in the present paper on the Cherenkov radiation in a more subtle model considering the so-called ``mean-field Bogoljubov limit'' (E-model).
