A subgroup \(A\) of a periodic group \(G\) is Sylow permutable (or S-permutable) if \(AP=PA\) for all Sylow subgroups of \(G\). A result of \textit{O. H. Kegel} [Math. Z. 78, 205-221 (1962; Zbl 0102.26802)] shows that, for finite groups, S-permutable subgroups are subnormal. Furthermore \(A/\text{Core}_GA\) is nilpotent. Unlike with permutable subgroups, S-permutable subgroups need not be ascendant in a group in general.NEWLINENEWLINE The main result of this very nice paper is as follows: Let \(G\) be locally finite and let \(A\) be S-permutable in \(G\). If \(A\) is ascendant in \(G\) then \(A^G/\text{Core}_GA\) is locally nilpotent. They also prove that if \(A\) is S-permutable in the hyperfinite group \(G\) then \(A^G/\text{Core}_GA\) is locally nilpotent. One other result of interest is that the S-permutable subgroups of a group \(G\) with min-\(p\) for all primes \(p\) are ascendant.
