In [Commun. Algebra 21, No. 1, 299-307 (1993; Zbl 0798.20007)] \textit{J. Zhang} asked the following question. Suppose a finite solvable group \(G\) is acting faithfully and irreducibly on some vector space \(V\), and for every prime \(p\), there is an orbit of \(G\) on \(V\) such that the \(p\)-part of its size is the \(p\)-part of \(|G|\). Is it true that \(G\) will have a regular orbit on \(V\)? The authors show that the answer is `no' by exhibiting two examples with no regular orbit, one where the characteristic of \(V\) is \(2\), and a different example where \(|G|\) is even. Furthermore, they prove that the answer to Zhang's question is yes whenever both \(|G|\) and the characteristic of \(V\) are odd.
