    In the paper [Math. Z. 260, No. 4, 755--777 (2008; Zbl 1192.11028)] \textit{V. Blomer} proved an asymptotic formula for the twisted first moment \[ \frac{\Gamma(k-1)}{(4 \pi)^{k-1}} \sum_{\mathcal{B}_k(N, \chi)} \frac{1}{|| f||^2} \lambda_f(l^2) L \left( \frac{1}{2}, \text{sym}^2 f \right) \] of the symmetric square \(L\)-functions at the central point \(\frac{1}{2}\), associated to the family of primitive holomorphic cusp forms of weight \(k \geq 2\), squarefree level \(N\) and primitive real character \(\chi\) modulo \(N\), where \(\lambda_f(n)\) denotes the Hecke eigenvalues and \(l\) is an integer, with \((l, N)=1\). In the paper under review, the author obtains an asymptotic formula for the same family, but for any point on the critical line, i.e., for \[ \frac{\Gamma(k-1)}{(4 \pi)^{k-1}} \sum_{\mathcal{B}_k(N, \chi)} \frac{1}{|| f||^2} \lambda_f(l^2) L \left( \frac{1}{2} + i t, \text{sym}^2 f \right). \] As an application, it is shown that for given \(t \in \mathbb{R}\), there exists a constant \(N_0(t)\) such that for any \(N \geq N_0(t)\), there exists a Hecke cusp form \(f\in S_k(N,\chi)\) such that \(L(\text{sym}^2 f, 1/2+it)\neq0\).
