[For the entire collection see Zbl 0747.00029.] In this paper the author investigates metrizable continua having \(\sigma\)-finite linear Hausdorff measure with respect to a compatible metric. A continuum \(X\) has a \(\sigma\)-finite linear measure with respect to the metric \(\rho\) and the subsets \(X_ 1,X_ 2,\dots\) of \(X\) such that \(X_ n\subset X_{n+1}\), \(\cup X_ n=X\) and linear Hausdorff measure \(H^ 1(X_ n,\rho)<\infty\) exist. Also a continuum \(M\) has a property \(P\) if every subcontinuum \(K\) of \(M\) which contains only countably many local separating points of \(M\) is nowhere dense in \(M\). Theorem: Let \(X\) be a continuum. Every nondegenerate subcontinuum of \(X\) has property \(P\) if and only if for each \(x\), \(K_{\sigma(x)}=\{x\}\). Next with the notion of compact Lipschitz metric, the author gives an extension of a metric. Also the author proves the following Theorem: Let \(X\) be a nondegenerate metrizable continuum with a metric \(\rho\). Then \(0<H^ 1(X,\rho)<\infty\) if and only if there is a continuous map \(f\) of the unit interval onto \(X\) which has finite arc length. A number of examples have been constructed in support of some results.
