The authors consider a second-order elliptic problem in 2D without first derivatives but with variable coefficients. They use high-order triangular finite elements for the numerical solution of the Dirichlet problem and investigate the accuracy of this approach by invoking weak estimates and a local symmetric technique (not defined here). In this way, they prove the superconvergence result of an accuracy of \(O(h^{p+1}|\ln{h}|^2)\) for odd degrees \(p\geq 3\), and of \(O(h^{p+2}|\ln{h}|^2)\) for even degrees \(p\geq 4\), at a point \(x_0\) of the mesh.
