Let \(\pi=(\mathbb{P},\mathbb{L})\) be a projective plane. A non-identical collineation \(\sigma\) of \(\pi\) is called translation with axis \(\ell\), if \(\sigma\) fixes pointwise the line \(\ell\) and the center \(C\) (linewise fixed by \(\sigma\)) belongs to \(\ell\). The plane is said \((C,\ell)\)-transitive if for every line \(m\neq \ell\) the group of all the translations of axis \(\ell\) and center \(C\) acts transitively on the points of \(m \setminus \ell\) different from \(C\). A \textit{translation line} \(\ell\) of a projective plane \(\pi\) is a line such that \(\pi\) is \((C,\ell)\)-transitive for all \(C \in \ell\). A \textit{translation point} \(P\) of a projective plane \(\pi\) is a point such that \(\pi\) is \((P,m)\)-transitive for all \(m \ni P\). A projective plane belongs to the \textit{Lenz-Barlotti class V} if it has a translation line \(\ell\) and a translation point \(P\) such that \(P \in \ell\). In this work the author gives an overview on some recent results concerning projective planes of the Lenz-Barlotti class V and their connection with semifields. In particular, a projective plane \(\pi\) belongs to the Lenz-Barlotti class V if there exists a semifield \(S\) such that \(\pi=\pi(S)\) (i.e. \(\pi\) \textit{has coordinates} in \(S\)); \(\pi\) is self-dual if and only if \(S\) is commutative. A geometric construction of the chain of six planes of class V from a given one and a connection between commutative semifields and symplectic semifields spreads are recalled. Also the relationship between blocking sets and semifields, investigated in a previous paper by the author, is presented. Finally some classification theorems for semifields of dimension \(2\) over its left nucleus are given.
