The paper deals with the monic quadratic polynomials \(L(\lambda)=I\lambda^2+D\lambda+K\), where \(D\) and \(K\) are Hermitian matrices. Such a polynomial can factorized into a product of two linear polynomials \(L(\lambda)=(I\lambda-S)(I\lambda-A)\). The authors prescribe the right solvent, i.e., the matrix \(A\), its spectral properties (eigenvalues and eigenvectors) and then determine compatible left solvents \(S\). The splitting of the spectrum between real eigenvalues and nonreal conjugate pairs plays an important role. Special attention is paid to the case of real symmetric quadratic polynomials.
