This book collects and reviews papers and different results concerning evacuation planning. A well-done introduction tells about the mathematical problem classes which are connected with planning of evacuations as there are dynamic network flow models, network traffic routing, minimization of the evacuation time, intersecting traffic streams and flow problems. Then, as chapter 2, a literature review together with a list of references follows. This list shows, that this research field lives since the eighties apart from flow problems. Then, in Chapter 3, the author deals with linear mixed-integer evacuation models with some extensions. Here and in all the other chapters the author can use apart others also her own results. Chapter 4 contains a heuristic approach with examples. Chapter 5 deals with pattern-based evacuation planning for urban areas, supported on a paper of her together with \textit{A. Kimms} [Eur. J. Oper. Res. 216, No. 1, 57--69 (2011; Zbl 1237.90036)]. Chapter 6, also based on the just mentioned paper, supplements chapter 5 and gives data with respect to made computational studies. Chapter 7 deals with a multicommodity evacuation problem (buses and private cars, two-way streets allowed) followed by a heuristic approach to solve it. The last chapter has the title ``conclusions and future research'' and contains an overview on the methods presented in the book together with some hints to further research as f. i. to incorporate uncertainties and stochastic optimization.
