Let \(p\geq 1\), and \(\Lambda:=(\lambda_j)_{j \in \mathbb{N}}\) be the general term of a diverging series. The space \(\Lambda_pBV\) consists of all real valued functions \(f\) on a compact interval \(I\) of \(\mathbb{R}\) such that the \(\Lambda_p\)-variation, defined by \[ V_{\Lambda_p}(f):=\sup\left\{\sum_{j=1}^n \frac{|f(b_j) -f(a_j)|^p}{\lambda_j} \right\}<\infty. \] In the previous expression, the supremum is taken over all \(n \in \mathbb{N}\) and all partitions \(\{(a_j,b_j)\}_{1 \leq j \leq n}\) of \(I\). One can endow \(\Lambda_pBV\) with a norm \[ \|f\|_{\Lambda_p}:=\|f\|_\infty + [V_{\Lambda_p}(f)]^{1/p} \] which makes it a Banach space. The author shows that it also defines a Banach algebra with respect to pointwise multiplication. More specifically, if \(f\) and \(g \in \Lambda_pBV\), then the product \(fg \in \Lambda_pBV\) and the norm are submultiplicative: \[ \|fg\|_{\Lambda_p}\leq \|f\|_{\Lambda_p}\|g\|_{\Lambda_p}. \] A variant of this result is given for a more general class of \(BV\)-functions defined using a notion of \(\phi\)-variation.
