Let \(A\) and \(B\) be two given complex \(n\times n\) matrices. The author considers the question of whether there exists a unitary complex \(n\times n\) matrix \(U\) such that both \(U^T AU\) and \(U^T BU\) are real matrices. He defines a technical property for the pair \((A,B)\) and formulates an algorithm which answers the above question provided that the pair \((A,B)\) has the said property. A more complete version of this paper containing all the proofs has been submitted to the journal Mathematical Notes.
