      The authors study the initial-value problem for the KdV equation with critical time-periodic nonlinearity \( u_t + \partial _x^3 u + g(\omega t) \partial _x u^5 = 0, \) where \(g\) is time-periodic. For initial value in \(H^s(\mathbb {R})\), \(3/8<s<1\) and \(s=1\) the authors construct unique local-in-time solution to the above problem.NEWLINENEWLINEMoreover, considering the case \(s=1\), when passing with \(\omega \to +\infty \), the solutions converge (in particular, in \(C([0,T]; H^1(\mathbb {R}))\) for some \(T>0\)) to the solution of the problem \( U_t + \partial ^3_x U + m(g) \partial _x U^5 = 0 \) with the same initial datum, where \(m(g)\) denotes the mean value of \(g\).NEWLINENEWLINEIf the limit problem possesses a global-in-time solution (e.g. if \(m(g) =0\)), then also the original problem with the time-periodic nonlinearity possesses a global-in-time solution for \(\omega \) sufficiently large.
